Wrexham AFC have confirmed another important upgrade to their historic Racecourse Ground as part of ongoing efforts to modernise the stadium ahead of the club’s continued Championship campaign.

The latest development will see rail seating installed in the SToK Cold Brew Coffee Stand, allowing supporters to enjoy safe standing sections, a move designed to enhance matchday experience and crowd engagement while maintaining safety standards.

Work is set to begin after Wrexham’s home game against Leicester City on January 20 and is expected to be completed by February 7, ahead of the club’s next fixture against Millwall.

The rail seating project represents the latest in a series of upgrades to the Racecourse Ground under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The club have previously undertaken major improvements, including a pitch revamp with undersoil heating and new drainage systems in August 2025, part of preparations for higher-level football and future stadium ambitions.

Although the all-seater stadium licence will remain in effect for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, the new rail seats will feature a waist-high rail system that allows fans to remain safe and secure when standing during key moments, such as goals and celebrations.

Rail seating is becoming increasingly common among ambitious clubs looking to balance the passionate support that standing areas generate with modern safety standards.

Rail seating part of broader Racecourse Ground evolution

The club’s football operations are closely tied to the physical transformation of the Racecourse Ground, which has seen several upgrades designed to elevate the venue’s profile.

Earlier works included the installation of goal-line technology, moving dugouts, expanding screens and extending the pitch to allow for multi-sport use.

Most notably, Wrexham’s plans for a new 7,750-capacity Kop Stand, part of a larger masterplan to restore the stadium’s four-sided structure, are progressing under a contract with McLaren Construction and architects Populous.

The Kop Stand redevelopment, first approved in March 2025, is set to be finished in time for the 2026-27 season, accommodating UEFA standards and adding more than 18,000 total capacity once complete.

While the full Kop project will take longer, the rail seating installation shows that Wrexham are not waiting to improve what fans experience now.

Fanzone updates and drone footage have tracked progress across the site, emphasising how early works such as site preparation, drainage and power infrastructure have laid the groundwork for more visible advances in 2026.

The safe-standing initiative also aligns with broader fan engagement objectives, giving supporters more options to enjoy matches and strengthening the connection between the passionate Wrexham fanbase and their historic home ground.

FGG Says

This latest upgrade at the Racecourse Ground is a smart, supporter-focussed move that recognises passion without compromising safety.

Rail seating offers a modern solution to an age-old debate about standing areas in stadiums, and Wrexham’s decision to implement it now, ahead of broader redevelopment works, shows maturity in their approach.

The Kop Stand will grab headlines later, but incremental improvements like this keep matchday atmospheres electric and the club moving forward.
