Barcelona have now played two competitive matches back at the Camp Nou following more than two years of renovation work at their home stadium.

After playing at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys for the entirety of the the last two seasons, and for the a handful of games at the begginning of this one, just over 45,000 fans have been allowed to return to the Camp Nou for the club's La Liga matches with Athletic Club and Alaves.

On Saturday, for the match against Alaves, it wasn't only Barcelona fans that were in attendance at the Camp Nou, as UEFA officials were also present to assess the state of the stadium ahead of Barcelona's match against Frankfurt in December.

UEFA provide Camp Nou verdict following Alaves fixture

Barcelona have played their first two home Champions League fixtures this season at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, but the plan is to play their next match against Frankfurt at the Camp Nou.

In order to approve Barcelona's request to return to the Camp Nou for European matches, UEFA have to first ensure the stadium meets health and safety standards.

According to a report in Mundo Deportivo, UEFA officials spent ‘hours' at the Camp Nou, before, during and after the match at the weekend, to ‘check on-site all the security protocols, access, internal signage and general operation'.

These officials also reportedly conducted meetings with the club officials before officially giving the stadium the green light. This means that the match with Frankfurt on Tuesday, 9 December can take place at the Camp Nou and away fans will also be permitted to attend.

Barcelona left sweating after ticketing issue

Barcelona officials would have been fearing the worst after a digital ticketing issue left thousands of fans stranded outside the stadium during the match with Alaves at the weekend.

Although the majority of these fans ended up getting inside the Camp Nou, the scenes outside didn't exactly scream ‘health and safety', but UEFA are seemingly sastisfied with Barcelona's explanation for the ticketing issue.

FGG says: The return of one of Europe's most inconic stadiums

The Camp Nou return has been a long-time coming and it will be great to hear the Champions League anthem being played at one of Europe's finest stadium once again in December. Now that they are back home, you would be foolish to rule out the Catalans going on a deep run in the competition this season.
