Albania fans mock spaghetti ahead of Euro 2024 Italy clash

Ahead of their side's clash with reigning champions Italy, Albania fans hit their opposition's supporters where it hurt it most – by attacking spaghetti, a staple of Italian cuisine.

It was the kind of light-hearted banter between fanbases which we want to see at Euro 2024 and it is refreshing to see that supporters can poke fun at each other without it becoming a physical issue.

Albania fans mock spaghetti in Dortmund

The city of Dortmund was overwhelmed with thousands of travelling Albania and Italy fans ahead of the match, and with that in mind, the two fanbases were always going to clash in some shape or form in the hours leading up to kick-off.

That certainly was the case, and while there were reports of violence in Dortmund from a small minority of supporters, this incident in question was a reminder of how tribalism and rivalry can be humourous rather than dangerous.

When this group of Albania supporters crossed paths with a mob of Italian fans, they decided to hit them where it hurt – no, not the face, but rather their beloved spaghetti. In the video above, they can be seen snapping handfuls of spaghetti as supporters of the reigning champions begged them not to.

It was a fun, light-hearted moment that we all wish to see more of at Euro 2024.

A historic night for Albania

The Albania fans were clearly in a joyous mood for the most part and were simply wanting to enjoy their time in Germany and at Euro 2024. It is just the second time in the country's history that they have qualified for the tournament, and the supporters were keen to make the most of the rare opportunity.

If they were to somehow cause an upset against the Italians on Saturday, June 15, expect that party-like atmosphere to intensify even further.
