Barcelona are pushing ahead with the next phase of the Camp Nou redevelopment.

But the club may soon have to strike a difficult balance between finishing the stadium and finding the money to do it.

Barcelona have Camp Nou balancing act amid Goldman Sachs update

The LaLiga giants insist work on Camp Nou remains on track, but fresh financial details have raised new questions about whether the club has enough funding left to complete the project.

The first two tiers of the redeveloped Camp Nou are now open, allowing Barcelona to host around 62,000 supporters.

However, there is still major work to complete on the new third tier, which will eventually increase the stadium’s capacity to around 105,000.

Although the structure of the upper level is now in place, it still needs waterproofing, seats, VIP boxes and the necessary permits before it can be opened to supporters.

The biggest challenge may be paying for it.

Barcelona’s wider Espai Barca project has been financed through a €1.377 billion (£1.2 billion) package arranged by Goldman Sachs.

But according to the latest update, much of that funding had already been spent by the end of 2025, leaving less than €300 million (£260 million) still available.

At the current rate of spending, reports in Spain suggest the remaining money could run out by the end of May 2026.

Barcelona sources insist more funding will still be available after that date, but there are doubts over whether there will be enough to finish the third tier and eventually install the stadium roof.

The roof itself remains a major issue because fitting it is expected to force Barcelona to temporarily leave Camp Nou again, either returning to Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys or using the smaller Johan Cruyff Stadium.

FGG says: Camp Nou is getting closer but Barcelona enter a difficult stage

The good news for Barcelona fans is that the hardest part of the rebuild appears to be over.

The new Camp Nou is starting to take shape, and the third tier is now clearly visible, but this next phase may be the most difficult of all.

Barcelona need to keep the work moving, avoid more delays and somehow make sure the money lasts long enough to finish the project.

With less than £260 million left and plenty of work still to do, the club face a real balancing act over the next year.
