Barcelona's newly reopened Spotify Camp Nou stadium has been the subject of ridicule due to early issues.

As reported by Goal, rats were spotted in the ground before Wednesday's Champions League game with FC Copenhagen, mere days after major leaks during the weekend's game.

According to Goal, and in a video shared by Marca, rats were seen scuttling around the Camp Nou playing surface on Tuesday.

Such a development came just days after the Blaugrana's home victory over Real Oviedo on Sunday and ahead of a Champions League contest against FC Copenhagen, when they sealed fifth spot and a round-of-16 spot with a 4-1 win.

Headlines were stolen during the weekend's win by widescale leaks in the reopened ground, with broadcasters and fans drenched as the roof failed to cope with weather conditions.

Complications with Camp Nou renovations continue

Leaks and pest issues are the latest of a long list of worries faced by Barcelona since the beginning of their long-running Spotify Camp Nou renovation project.

After temporarily leaving their home in May 2023, the Blaugrana returned in competitive action for the first time in November 2025, following phase 1B of their works with around 45,000 fans able to attend.

Such a date came after the pushing back of plans, with the Catalan giants originally hoping to have been back in their home for the second half of the 2024-25 season.

Full proposals, meanwhile, will see the iconic stadium taken up to a 105,000-seater while currently operating at a limited capacity.

Bids to re-open further sections for supporters have since faced hurdles, with reported delays in receiving permits for Phase 1C – supposedly pushing the expected date towards the end of February.

After seeing early works slowed by construction issues and worker strikes, the Blaugrana have since been subject to protests outside of the ground, with the ‘Comisiones Obreras' Union camping outside of the ground to fight against the ongoing mistreatment and dismissal of construction workers.

FGG says: Understandable teething issues

While the stacking up of issues may be cause for concern as Barcelona renovate their iconic home, matters such as rats and leaks are far from extreme in the context of the reopening.

Such issues will only come to light when the ground is used practically and can then be remedied, with roofing reinforcements bound to follow after widescale leaks last week and pest control sure to deal with rat infestations.
