Barcelona have announced a series of new security and ticketing measures ahead of a major European night at Camp Nou.
The club say the steps are designed to ensure the safety of supporters and avoid a repeat of past problems during high-demand continental fixtures.
Barcelona label Newcastle fixture as a “high-risk match”
Next week's UEFA Champions League Round-of-16 clash between Barcelona and Newcastle United at the Spotify Camp Nou has officially been classified as a “high-risk match”.
In response, Barcelona have introduced strict controls on ticket sales and stadium access for the second-leg tie on Wednesday March 18th.
Tickets will be nominal, meaning each seat must be registered to a named individual, and supporters will be required to present identification if requested at entry points.
The club has also blocked ticket purchases originating from the visiting team’s country using IP restrictions and bank card controls.
Fans wearing Newcastle colours will only be permitted in the designated away section, while ticket transfers between members have been temporarily suspended.
Barcelona also warned Newcastle supporters without official away tickets not to travel to the stadium, confirming there will be no ticket sales at the venue on matchday.
Security staffing will be increased, and authorities, including local police and stadium officials, will coordinate to monitor access and prevent unauthorised entry.
