Al Ahly become the first African club ever to take part in the Joan Gamper Trophy, a competition that has previously welcomed leading teams from Europe and South America, including Bayern Munich, Juventus, Arsenal and Boca Juniors.

The Egyptian champions confirmed the agreement after club officials travelled to Spain to finalise arrangements with Barcelona, with discussions covering the organisational and logistical plans for the match.
