With just one day to go until the FA Cup final between Man Utd and Man City, Bruno Fernandes has published an open letter to the Man Utd fans heading to Wembley via the Player's Tribune. The United captain has taken the opportunity to not only thanks the fans for their unwavering support but also to clarify his future plans amid speculations about where he will be playing football next season.
Fernandes signed for the club in January 2020 and has comfortably been the club's best player ever since. He was made captain this summer by Erik Ten Hag after Harry Maguire's game time was severely cut by the Dutchman.
Fernandes asks for one big push ahead of Wembley trip
In what has been a frustrating and disappointing season for Man Utd, Fernandes felt obligated as captain to send a rallying cry before their biggest game of the season at Wembley. About the match on Saturday, he told supporters:
“I want to say a few words from the heart before this FA Cup final. I know that it has not been an easy season for you. We have not been up to the standard that you deserve. We have not always matched the support you’ve shown us. As the captain, I feel that more than anyone, and it is not a responsibility that I take for granted.
“After this difficult season, it is my responsibility to give more. It starts with me. And it starts tomorrow. We have to give everything in this last match against City, and we have to move forward.
“I know it has not been easy. I know it has not been to our standard. But we’re on our way to Wembley. Get behind us one more time.”
Fernandes clarifies his future in letter to Man Utd fans
In recent weeks, speculation has been rife about Fernandes' future. The Portuguese midfielder has been linked with a big money move to Saudi Arabia while there has also been speculation in Spain and Germany that Barcelona and Bayern Munich want to sign him.

Fernandes has seemed to put to bed this speculation as he told Man Utd fans in his open letter:
“I love to step out at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has always been my ultimate dream.
“I just want my expectations to fit with the expectations of the club. If you go talk to any fan, they will tell you the same thing. We want to compete for the league. We want to be playing Champions League football. We want to be in cup finals. That is the standard. That is what I want. That is what you all deserve.
“I just want to keep fighting. I want to be here. My family wants to be here.”
