Celtic fans in Munich: Full matchday guide to Allianz Arena

On Tuesday, 18 February, Celtic will travel to Germany for the second leg of their Champions League playoff tie with Bayern Munich.

The Bhoys go into the match with plenty of work to do after losing the first leg 2-1 at Celtic Park but with the away goals rule now a thing of the past, Brendan Rodgers' side still have some hope of progressing to the Round of 16.

It is the biggest European away match in several years for Celtic so it is anticipated that thousands of Celtic fans will be heading over to Munich for the game. If you are going to be one of the many Celtic fans in Munich on matchday, then here is everything you need to know.

How many Celtic fans are going to Munich?

Celtic have been allocated 3,750 tickets for the match against Bayern Munich, which is the standard amount for an away team at the Allianz Arena due to the 5% rule that UEFA enforces. These tickets are still on sale, but only Celtic season ticket holders who have attended two or more of the club's last 12 European away matches can purchase them.

However, given the magnitude of the fixture and how easily accessible Munich is from the United Kingdom, officials are expecting way more than that number to travel over for the match. There could be as many as 10,000 Celtic fans in Munich on matchday.

Where will Celtic fans sit at the Allianz Arena?

The Allianz Arena away section is located in the third tier of the northeast corner of the stadium, so in other words, up in the gods. This is a deliberate ploy by Bayern Munich to try and prevent away fans from making themselves heard at pitch level but Celtic fans will try their best to counteract this.

Celtic fans will enter through blocks 339 – 347 and although they will be high up, the view of the pitch isn't as bad as you might expect thanks to the bowl design of the stadium. There will be Bayern Munich fans on either side of the away end so expect the segregation lines to be quite severe.

Celtic fans will be just happy that they are able to attend the match as there were rumours that UEFA were considering banning them after they let off fireworks and flares against Aston Villa.
