Celtic vs Dundee postponed due to Storm Eowyn, new date confirmed

Celtic vs Dundee was due to take place today, but with damage to the stadium from Storm Eowyn, the fixture has had to be delayed.

Celtic's Scottish Premiership match against Dundee, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to damage at the stadium caused by Storm Eowyn. Gusts of win reaching 100 mph were reported throughout Scotland on Friday, leading to extensive travel disruptions and infrastructure damage.

The rearranged fixture will take place on 5 February 2025, with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Celtic vs Dundee could be the first of many

Speculation that the fixture would be delayed was brought to light on Friday evening, though the full extent of the damage wasn't realised until early on Saturday.

In a statement, Celtic said, ‘Today’s scheduled Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Dundee at Celtic Park has been called off. Unfortunately, due to the stadium damage sustained yesterday, we have been advised that we are unable to proceed with today's match. While clearly this is disappointing, the safety of our supporters will always be our priority. The rearranged fixture will take place on February 5, 2025 with a 7.45pm kick-off.'

This is likely to be the first of many games that get called off at short notice. In fact, local rivals Rangers have seen the damage to their own stadium. However, they play away on Sunday, 26 January.

FGG says: Safety first

Last year, Everton vs. Liverpool got delayed under similar conditions, so it's no surprise that the same thing happened here. At the end of the day, fans need to travel to the game, and while it's short notice, they should have time to cancel plans and stay home.

The other good news is that a new fixture has already been confirmed, and fans won't have to wait long to actually see this fixture play out. For Celtic, it's probably not an awful delay anyway given their mid-week Champions League fixtures on either side of this fixture.
