Due to the storm warning, the Everton vs Liverpool Premier League match was delayed, and given how hectic the December fixture list is, it might end up working out for both clubs.
However, there are not many dates left on which this final-ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park can be played, but we think we've found the perfect spot.
Update: Date confirmed
We are happy to confirm we were indeed correct in our prediction for the date of the new fixture. 12 February will see the final Mersyside derby at Goodison Park before Everton move to their new stadium for the 2025/26 season.
The Premier League match has been scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 12 February (7.30 pm GMT kick-off). It will be broadcast live on TNT Sports in the UK. The final league derby at Goodison was initially set to be played on Saturday, 7 December 2024, but severe weather caused it to be postponed on safety grounds.
The new date is set to be between the FA Cup 4th round and a regular league fixture; it will also be just one week after Liverpool's crunch second-leg Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham.
For Everton, it's a less busy period, though they are also in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and against Premier League Bournemouth, so a much harder fixture to rotate players.

It was a shocking story for many fans waking up to find out that the Everton vs Liverpool fixture had been delayed. Now the storm has settled, talk turns to finding a new date for it. Given the FA Cup, and Liverpool's hopes in the Champions League, however, finding a new date before the end of the season won't be easy.
That said, we think the fixture can be played during a key week in the new year; given how well Liverpool is performing this season, it should be a no-brainer.
Everton vs Liverpool fixture new date
A quick look at the fixtures for both Everton and Liverpool in the new year will show you that neither are going to have much spare football time.
While Everton are in a slightly better position, we have to take into account a few possible additional fixtures. Everton will face Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round; if they win, the fourth-round fixtures will take place on 8 February. Liverpool will play Accrington Stanley, so we can be fairly sure one of them will be busy that weekend.
It's worth noting that the FA Cup fourth-round weekend is blocked out for all clubs currently, so if both sides were to be knocked out in the third round, this weekend would work. So, the weekend of 8 February could be a possible date for the fixture.
There is, however, a more likely place where the fixture can be played. As things stand, Liverpool are very likely to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League. This means they will avoid the 2024/25 knockout phase play-offs. These fixtures will be played over two weeks, 11/12 February and 18/19 February. These two sets of dates would be ideal for both clubs.
The key here will be which date works best for both. The first would mean the derby takes place between Everton's fixtures with Leicester and Crystal Palace.
In contrast, the following week, it would be between Crystal Palace and Man United. In The same vein, for Liverpool, the 11/12 February week would see them play between Bournemouth and Wolves. Whereas the week after, it would come between Wolves and Man City, with another midweek fixture at home to Newcastle United.
Based on this, we think the date for the Everton vs Liverpool fixture will be on 12 February 2025.
Other alternative dates for Merseyside derby
Assuming Liverpool continue in the Champions League, the dates for possible fixtures are significantly limited. You can see the remaining Champions League dates below:
- Round of 16: 4/5 and 11/12 March
- Quarter-finals: 8/9 and 15/16 April
- Semi-finals: 29/30 April and 6/7 May
- Final: 31 May
These would also cause clashes with potential FA Cup weekend fixtures
- Fifth Round Proper – 1 March
- Quarter Final – 29 March
- Semi Final – 26 April
The only other alternative would be to play the fixtures between the final two games of the season. For Everton, that would be 21 May, as they end the season away in Newcastle. It would also mean the final ever home game at Goodison Park was a derby match against Liverpool. It's possibly a little too romantic to hope for that, but it could work out.
We don't expect news of an official date to come any time soon, though we suspect that might trigger an announcement once Liverpool lock-in a spot in the Champions League knockout stage.
