Derby fans on the pitch as they secure promotion back to the Championship

There were thousands of Derby fans on the pitch as they secured their promotion back to the Championship with a 2-0 win against Carlisle.

Following the relegation from the Championship in the 2021/22 season and the financial problems under former owner Mel Morris, Derby fans will be ecstatic with the club’s promotion to the second tier.

There were over 31,000 Derby County fans at Pride Park Stadium as they saw off already-relegated Carlisle to secure automatic promotion from League One. When the final whistle went, Derby fans stormed onto the pitch to celebrate the achievement by Paul Warne’s team.

@AwayDays_ posted a video of the Derby fans on the pitch on X.com (formerly Twitter). The caption read, “Derby County on the pitch as they secure promotion back to the Championship today…Congratulations to them.” Fans of the Rams were heard loudly singing the ‘If you don’t bounce’ chant, which is a popular chant among Derby supporters.

Derby return to the Championship

The Derby fans on the pitch must have been relieved after last season’s disappointing seventh-place finish in League One. Paul Warne joined the Rams in September 2022 and oversaw last season’s below-par performance, but was able to secure his fourth promotion to the Championship this season.

Derby finished five points ahead of Bolton Wanderers, who will now face Barnsley in the play-offs. The other play-off semi-final will be played between Peterborough United and Oxford United.
