England supporters travelling to Mexico City for Sunday's World Cup Round of 16 clash have been issued fresh safety advice ahead of the highly anticipated showdown with the hosts.

The Foreign Office has updated its guidance as thousands of Three Lions fans prepare to descend on the iconic Estadio Azteca.

Security alert issued ahead of World Cup Round of 16 clash at Estadio Azteca

England fans have been urged to remain vigilant during their stay in Mexico after the UK Foreign Office issued updated travel advice ahead of Sunday's blockbuster World Cup clash with Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.

The guidance warns that reports of mobile phone thefts and drinks being spiked have increased during the tournament, with supporters advised to take extra care while enjoying the host city's bars and fan zones.

Supporters have also been reminded that if they intend to return to the United States for later World Cup matches, they cannot use an emergency travel document issued by the British Embassy to re-enter the US should their passport be lost or stolen.

Another important warning concerns Mexico's strict laws on e-cigarettes and vapes. Travellers caught bringing vapes into the country could face significant fines and even imprisonment under current legislation.

The updated advice comes after Mexican authorities strengthened security measures following the tragic deaths of three supporters during celebrations at the Angel of Independence after Mexico's victory over Ecuador.

Despite those concerns, England fans have generally enjoyed a trouble-free tournament so far, with supporters earning praise for their behaviour in Dallas, Boston and Atlanta ahead of what promises to be one of the standout ties of the knockout stages.

FGG says: England fans should follow this travel advice before heading to Mexico

For thousands of England supporters, watching the Three Lions at the Estadio Azteca will be a genuine bucket-list football experience.

However, following the latest official travel advice will be just as important as planning the trip itself.

Staying alert, respecting local laws and taking sensible precautions should help ensure the focus remains on what promises to be a memorable occasion inside one of football's most iconic stadiums.
