Enzo Fernandez has faced plenty of criticism from Chelsea fans and pundits since making his £107m move to Chelsea in January 2023. The World Cup-winning midfielder has blown hot and cold in a Chelsea shirt with some impressive performances being combined with some horror shows.
On Thursday night against Man Utd, Fernandez had one of his better games in a blue shirt but was perhaps let down by his midfield partner, Moises Caicedo. However, it wasn't his performance that has got Chelsea fans salivating but what he did to Mason Mount after Chelsea won the game at the death.
The match marked Mount's first return to Stamford Bridge since leaving the club in the summer and he was given a hostile welcome by the Blues faithful. In video footage that has emerged after Cole Palmer's late winner, it appears that it wasn't only the fan who wanted to give the England midfielder an unpleasant return to his former home.
Fernandez is seen making his way over to Mount to confront him before beating the Chelsea badge on his shirt and launching a verbal attack on the 25-year-old. It came around ten minutes after the pair had exchanged more verbals on the pitch after a hefty challenge in midfield. The two players had only played on the same team for a couple of months at the end of the 2023/24 season but there was clearly no love lost.

Chelsea fans react to Fernandez and Mount incident
Unsurprisingly, the incident quickly went viral on social media, particularly among Chelsea fans who were quick to laud their Argentinian midfielder for giving it to Mount after the winner. Mount, who is now simply known as Judas among parts of the Chelsea faithful, was public enemy number one in West London last night.
One Chelsea fan posted on X: “Yesterday it slipped my mind that Mount was here with Enzo for 6 months. Makes this even more wild lol. These South Americans don’t play that “traitor” & “switching sides” stuff. It’s refreshing at times to see that old-school passion in the game.”
Another said: “Enzo vs the rat. I adore him so much.” A third posted: “Enzo Fernandez is Chelsea through and through.”
Other fans took a dim view of the incident with some suggesting that Enzo used Mount as a cheap way of scoring points with the Chelsea fans. One person posted: “Enzo Fernandez cost £120m and the highlight of his Chelsea career is him beefing with Mount.” Another said: “Chelsea fans should tell Enzo to calm down. Mount won Chelsea UCL, he is fighting for 10th place.”
