Hill Dickinson Stadium is reportedly set to welcome rugby league's Magic Weekend back in 2027 following the success of its first edition at the waterfront venue.

Positive discussions have taken place over a return to Everton's home next year, further strengthening the new stadium's growing reputation as a multi-purpose home for major sporting and entertainment events.

Hill Dickinson Stadium set to host more rugby after recent success

Magic Weekend is set to return to Hill Dickinson Stadium in 2027 after the event's move to Everton's new home proved a major success.

According to the ECHO, positive talks have taken place between Everton and RL Commercial over bringing the Super League festival back to the stadium next year.

The development follows a ‘record-breaking' opening day at the 2026 edition and comes after the venue successfully staged an Ashes Test between England and Australia last year.

The future of Magic Weekend had previously been questioned, with some Super League clubs reportedly wanting the event removed from the calendar.

However, its move to Liverpool appears to have injected fresh life into the concept, with strong ticket sales and positive reactions from those within the game.

Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet described the event as feeling “exciting and fresh”, while St Helens boss Paul Rowley praised the opportunity for rugby league to showcase itself at a new venue.

Hill Dickinson Stadium could also become a contender to host the Super League Grand Final in the future.

The event is contracted to remain at Old Trafford until 2027, but RL Commercial managing director Rhodri Jones has confirmed that other venues will be considered beyond the current agreement and expects Everton's stadium to be among the candidates.

The weekend has also demonstrated the venue's entertainment potential, with Example becoming the first music artist to perform at Hill Dickinson Stadium and Jax Jones also appearing as part of the festival programme.

FGG says: Hill Dickinson Stadium continues to deliver

A second Magic Weekend would be another significant step in establishing Hill Dickinson Stadium as far more than simply Everton's home ground.

One of the major ambitions behind the project was to create a venue capable of generating revenue throughout the year, and repeat bookings for major sporting events are an encouraging sign that strategy is working.

The possibility of hosting a future Super League Grand Final only underlines the stadium's growing appeal.

For Everton, every successful event brings additional income and exposure while further establishing their waterfront home as one of the UK's leading major-event venues.
