Every EFL match across all three divisions will be streamed live on the opening day of the 2024/25 season. This was announced by the EFL on Wednesday, May 8, and is a first in broadcasting history.
I'm at Sky Studios today where they have just confirmed new channel Sky Sports+ and announced…

Every EFL match to be broadcast on TV on opening weekend
For the first time, every single match on the opening week of the EFL season will be broadcast live on a new channel called Sky Sports X. These matches will take place over the weekend of August 10/11, 2024. The final participants in each league are still to be decided, with the play-offs ongoing in all three leagues.
Jonathan Licht, Managing Director at Sky Sports, said: “Exceptional sport, covered in an innovative and compelling way, has been a big part of our history. With the introduction of Sky Sports+, we are now able to offer sport fans more choice and an even better experience when watching the live action, at no extra cost.

“For the first time, we will broadcast every game live from across the EFL on the opening weekend. It’s going to be a huge moment for football fans up and down the country and is a fitting way to kick off our ground-breaking new partnership with the EFL. And this is just the beginning; Sky Sports+ unlocks the potential for us to keep evolving and finding new ways to deliver brilliant sport to our customers.”
Sky Sports+ to expand coverage of live sport
Over the course of the season, four times as many games from across the EFL will be broadcast on Sky Sports+. This includes over 1,000 EFL games, showing each team on more than 20 occasions and every Championship club at least 24 times.
The wider coverage of the channel will extend to other sports including the men’s Super League, ATP and WTA tennis tours, and the PGA Tour. In the statement, the EFL added: “Sky Sports + offers the capability to show up to 100 events concurrently.” You can view the full statement introducing SkySports+ here.
