Wrexham and their ambitious stadium plans are continuing to move forward, but they come with a hefty price tag, it has now been revealed.
The true cost of transforming one of football’s most iconic stands has now come into focus this week.
How much are Wrexham paying to redevelop the Kop Stand?
Wrexham AFC are set to pay around £50 million towards the redevelopment of the Kop Stand at the Racecourse Ground, with the total project cost nearing £70 million.
Financial documents confirm the club has agreed a construction contract worth £69.29 million with McLaren Construction, covering the full rebuild of the stand.
However, a significant £17.35 million grant secured in 2023 reduces the direct financial burden on the club, leaving Wrexham to fund approximately £52 million themselves.

The redevelopment remains central to the club’s long-term strategy, with plans initially approved for a 5,500-seat stand, though a revised proposal could increase capacity to 7,500.
If that expansion is approved, the Racecourse Ground’s overall capacity would rise to over 18,000, opening up new revenue streams through ticket sales, hospitality, and the ability to host larger events.
Additional land purchases have also been completed to support the project, underlining the scale of the transformation currently underway.
FGG says: A huge project that could redefine Wrexham's future
This is a serious financial commitment for a club that has risen through the English football pyramid so quickly.
Spending over £50 million on infrastructure shows just how ambitious Wrexham’s ownership is, but it also raises the stakes significantly in terms of on-pitch success.
The upside is clear: a bigger, modern stadium brings more revenue, more fans, and a stronger platform for growth.
But like any major redevelopment, it comes with risk. If results don’t match the ambition, the financial pressure can quickly build.
