It has been a week to forget for the home nations, with Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all losing their respective World Cup playoff semi-finals.

If things had worked out differently, Wales and Northern Ireland could be preparing to go head-to-head for a place in the World Cup on Tuesday night. However, the two nations now have to somehow get up for a friendly encounter at the Cardiff City Stadium instead.

The players aren't the only ones who are struggling to get up for this tie, with fans also largely apathetic towards it. The ticket situation for the match is slightly unusual, too, which only complicates matters further.

If you are looking for tickets for Wales vs Northern Ireland, here is everything you need to know.

Wales vs Northern Ireland tickets: Key information

Wales tickets

All Wales tickets for the match have been sold out for some time, and that's because Wales sold tickets for the match at the same time they sold tickets for the playoff semi-final against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Wales were clear in their advertising that fans who purchased tickets for the match on Tuesday, 31 March, would not be refunded if the match turned out to be a friendly as opposed to a playoff final.

The gamble from a fan perspective was that it would guarantee them a seat for a potential World Cup playoff, which made the risk worth it. Unfortunately, these fans are now obliged to attend the friendly as no resales or returns are available.

Northern Ireland tickets

The situation is exactly the same for Northern Ireland supporters. Supporters were given the opportunity to purchase tickets for potential away matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Wales in the week beginning 16 March.

The Irish FA, like the Welsh FA, made it clear to supporters at the point of sale that tickets would not be refundable if the match turned out to be a friendly rather than a World Cup playoff.

Resale tickets

This is where things get interesting. While there are no official returns/resales in operation for the match, hundreds of supporters have listed their tickets for the match on third-party resale websites.

Fans should always exercise caution when using these types of websites to purchase match tickets, mainly because you aren't given the same security guarantees as you are when purchasing tickets through official avenues.

At the time of writing, tickets for Wales vs Northern Ireland are being listed for £58 on Livefootballtickets.
