Lazio have been handed a significant boost in their long-running plans to transform Stadio Flaminio into a new home for the club.
A positive heritage opinion means the redevelopment can move forward, although important conditions remain over how the historic stadium and its famous structure are preserved.
Lazio handed boost over new stadium plans
Lazio have received a positive opinion from Italy's state heritage protection authority, allowing work on the Stadio Flaminio redevelopment plans to continue.
The decision is not final approval, with the club now required to address several conditions concerning the preservation of Pier Luigi Nervi's historic design.
In particular, authorities have raised questions over the proposed new stands and the future of the existing roof.
Lazio's current plans envisage building new tiers around the historic structure while retaining its architectural identity.
The proposed redevelopment would ultimately increase capacity to around 50,000, with approximately 20,000 seats in the lower section and another 30,000 in a new upper tier.
The €480 million (£410 million) project would also include museum and exhibition spaces, while some existing facilities such as the swimming pool and sports hall would be retained. Lazio are seeking a 99-year right to use the stadium.
Transport remains another major consideration, with the club looking at improved public transport connections and the use of car parks outside central Rome to help manage matchday crowds.

FGG says: Lazio are finally making progress with Stadio Flaminio
This is another important step for Lazio, particularly given how complicated the process of redeveloping such a historic stadium has become.
Getting a positive heritage opinion means the project is moving in the right direction rather than remaining stuck at the concept stage.
There is still plenty of work to do, particularly around preserving Nervi's design, but a modern 50,000-capacity stadium that retains Flaminio's character would be a huge upgrade for Lazio and the surrounding area.
