Leeds United have submitted plans for a new Fan Park at Elland Road as the masterplan to expand and improve Elland Road take its next step.
The plans are currently with Leeds City Council, but on Friday, the club revealed concept art and key details about the proposals, which they have said will be a ‘welcoming space for supporters attending Elland Road on a matchday' while also being a space with the ability to ‘host an array of events, including live screenings'.
New Elland Road fan park: Key details
The proposed capacity of the new fan park is around 2,000, with the aim of creating a modern social space where fans can gather for pre-and post-match drinks.
If approved, the area will be housed inside the warehouse building opposite the East Stand. The club recently purchased the warehouse, and although they want to convert part of the building, they want to maintain its existing industrial style.
The fan zone will span two levels and include several bars and numerous seating areas. There will also be an outdoor courtyard, where fans can gather during the summer and a new roof to allow natural light into the warehouse.
The club also hope to welcome several food vendors into the fan zone, making it an area where fans could potentially stay for hours.
Elland Road masterplan continues to take shape
The plans for a fan zone show that Leeds are serious about completely transforming the matchday experience at Elland Road.
The West Stand renovation is already underway, while the plans to introduce a new transit route from the city centre to the stadium are progressing.
Later this month, an inaugural stadium liaison meeting will take place in the Gary Seed Suite at Elland Road, where fans and members of the public will be able to raise any questions or concerns about the proposals.
FGG says: A club on the rise
Leeds United have been referred to as a ‘sleeping giant' for several decades now, but we are currently at a moment in time where their fans should be excited about the future. They retained their Premier League status relatively comfortably last season and also reached the FA Cup semi-finals. With serious investment, they could soon be pushing for European football.
