Manchester United Legends Game with Celtic to include Berbatov, Butt, Scholes & more

A legends game always makes for an entertaining watch – the players may no longer be in their primes but that doesn't mean watching them is a waste of time and many supporters look forward to these matches every season.

Aside from that, the events are also usually organised to fundraise for charity, giving us fans all the more reason to watch.

With that in mind, here is everything you need to know about the upcoming Manchester United Legends game against Celtic Legends, including the date and the players who will be involved.

When is the Manchester United Legends game?

Old Trafford will play host as Manchester United welcomes Celtic Legends to the iconic stadium in a game which, despite being classed as a charity match, will likely be an entertaining watch.

The match will take place on Saturday, September 7 2024, with kick-off currently scheduled for 2pm.

Why are Manchester United Legends playing Celtic Legends?

In short, to raise money for charity, more specifically, for the Manchester United Foundation.

It is not the first time the Red Devils have run such an event, and in 2022, during a ‘Legends of the North' match, the club raised an astonishing £1.3 million.

Much like that occasion, all proceeds from this Manchester United Legends game will go towards the foundation's work with young people in the local area and across the entire country.

Who will be playing in the Manchester United Legends game?

At the time of writing, the full list of confirmed players has yet to be released, however, both clubs involved have provided enough names to whet our appetites before the match.

A series of legends from both clubs will soon be taking to the pitch, with the confirmed list of players outlined below for each team.

Manchester United Legends

The likes of Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Dimitar Berbatov have already been confirmed by the 13-time Premier League champions. The full list of confirmed players is as follows:

  • Dimitar Berbatov
  • Jesper Blomqvist
  • Karel Poborsky
  • Nicky Butt
  • Paul Scholes
  • Denis Irwin
  • Wes Brown
  • Ronny Johnsen
  • Mikaël Silvestre
  • Antonio Valencia
  • Anders Lindegaard
  • Darren Fletcher
  • Phil Bardsley
  • Danny Webber
  • Danny Simpson
  • Michael Carrick

The man charged with guiding that team to victory is none other than Bryan Robson – former captain of the club who is cherished by the entire fanbase. He will be aided by assistant coach Andy Cole, who is adored in his own right after scoring 121 goals for the Red Devils.

Celtic Legends

As of yet, there has been very little information released regarding which Celtic Legends will be selected for the match. However, using their charity match against Borussia Dortmund Legends earlier this year, there are a few names that will more than likely be involved.

So, come September 7, expect to see the likes of Scott Brown, Artur Boruc, Stephen McManus and Jan Venegoor donning the famous green and white hoops of the Glaswegian side.
