Matty Cash has been one of Aston Villa's standout performers over the past five years and has played a major role in the club's rise under Unai Emery.
His energetic displays at right-back have made him a firm favourite with the Villa Park faithful, who have embraced his commitment, passion and never-say-die attitude throughout his time in claret and blue.
Cash is part of an Aston Villa side hoping to secure Champions League football for the 2025-26 campaign, whether through their Premier League finish or by going all the way in the Europa League, having recently booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition.
It is therefore no surprise that Matty Cash has his own chant echoing around Villa Park. For all the key information on the song, including the lyrics and the tune it is sung to, keep reading.
Matty Cash chant, lyrics and tune
The Matty Cash chant is sung to the tune of ‘Spirit in the Sky' by Norman Greenbaum. The lyrics are as follows:
He’s our right back, he’s our number two
Signed for Villa, the Polish Cafu,
Down the right, and he loves to attack,
And he goes by the name of Matty Cash!
Matty Cash chant background
The Matty Cash chant was only created in 2023, around three years after the Polish full-back joined the club from Nottingham Forest. Although it was a long time coming, you could argue that it was worth the wait, as it is one of the best in the Villa catalogue.
The chant has been used by football fans before, most notably by Man Utd fans for their ‘going on the p**s with Georgie Best' chant, but the lyrics to this are so far away from that football chant that it's difficult to accuse Villa fans of copying.
The reference to Cash being the ‘Polish Cafu' is a nice touch, while the rest of the chant sums him up as a player perfectly, acknowledging his love to charge forward from right-back to help Villa in their attacks.

FGG says: Time to take it to the terraces
This is one of those chants that is most commonly heard in pubs around Villa Park and on Aston Villa away days. It's now time for more casual supporters to learn it in order to get it reverberating around Villa Park because the player deserves his flowers after five years of excellent service.
