Mexico supporters flooded the streets of the capital on Wednesday night after El Tri completed a perfect group stage campaign with victory over the Czech Republic.

Footage showed thousands gathering around Mexico City as the host nation continued their dream start to the 2026 World Cup.

Mexico supporters celebrate famous night in Mexico City

Scenes of jubilation erupted around iconic landmarks such as El Angel de la Independencia after Mexico secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Czechia to finish top of Group A with a 100 per cent record.

Videos shared on social media showed a sea of supporters dressed in green filling the famous monument as celebrations continued long into the evening.

Inside Estadio Azteca, the night also became an emotional tribute to legendary goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

The veteran was introduced during the closing stages of the match and received a standing ovation from the home crowd, with many describing it as one of the most memorable receptions ever given to a Mexican player at a World Cup.

After a frustrating first half, Mexico produced an outstanding second-half display to secure all three points and head into the knockout rounds with maximum points from their opening three matches.

The victory means the co-hosts now carry significant momentum into the Round of 32 after one of the strongest group-stage performances of any nation at the tournament.

FGG says: Are Mexico the strongest home nation?

Mexico have certainly looked the strongest of the three host nations so far.

A perfect group-stage record, packed stadiums and incredible scenes of celebration across Mexico City have combined to create exactly the kind of atmosphere FIFA would have hoped for.

If El Tri can carry this momentum into the knockout rounds, home advantage could yet prove one of the biggest factors at this World Cup.
