Non‑league club submit £60m plans to redevelop stadium and local area just two years after moving in

Truro City have unveiled ambitious plans to redevelop their stadium and the surrounding area just two years after moving into their new home.

The expansion project would increase capacity beyond 3,000 while creating a much bigger community hub around the ground.

The proposals would see a new clubhouse and additional terracing added to Truro Community Stadium, with the open side of the ground developed alongside a new terrace at the opposite end, and could cost up to £60 million, per the BBC.

The wider Langarth site would also feature homes, a community centre, retail units and a new 3G pitch.

Much of the project is expected to be privately funded or backed by institutional investors, with the planning process potentially taking up to a year and work hoped to begin within two years.

Truro moved into the stadium in summer 2024 after four years without a permanent home, playing at Plymouth Parkway's Bolitho Park and occasionally at Gloucester City.

They subsequently won promotion from National League South during their first campaign at the new ground.

The current stadium has one main stand and small terraces at either end, while the existing site already includes a 1,250-space car park linked to Cornwall Council's park and ride scheme.

Chief executive Robin Karkeek said the plans would provide a “solid foundation” for the club's future, while acknowledging there is still a long way to go.

This is some statement of intent from a non-league club that only moved into its current stadium two years ago.

Truro clearly see the opportunity to build something much bigger around the club, rather than simply settling for the facilities they have now.

The wider development is particularly interesting, because this is about creating a genuine community hub as well as improving the football ground.
