Manchester City’s final home match of the season carried a significance far beyond the scoreline, turning into a defining moment for the club.

With Pep Guardiola set to leave, his last appearance at the Etihad Stadium was marked by an emotional farewell and one final record falling in front of a packed, expanded stadium.

Man City achieve Etihad Stadium attendance record in Guardiola's final match

Man City set a new Etihad Stadium attendance record during Sunday's clash with Aston Villa, with 60,332 supporters inside the ground for Guardiola's last-ever home game in charge.

The figure surpassed the previous record at the Etihad and also represented City's highest home attendance for more than 50 years.

The last time that City attracted a crowd above 60,000 came back on November 6th 1971, when 63,326 supporters attended the Manchester derby at Maine Road.

The opening of the expanded North Stand, which has been named after the Spaniard, played a major role in reaching the new landmark, with over 7,000 seats added as part of the club's major redevelopment project.

The increase also made Sunday the largest football crowd ever staged at the Etihad Stadium and continued the transformation of City's home into one of the biggest club venues in English football.

With further expansion work still planned, the stadium capacity is expected to rise again in the coming years.

FGG says: One final record to close the end of the Guardiola era

Guardiola’s extraordinary decade at Manchester City has now reached its final chapter, and there was something fitting about another record falling around him on his Etihad farewell.

His era has been defined by breaking barriers and setting new standards on the pitch, and now even the stadium itself is entering a new phase, with an expanded North Stand, a record crowd and an atmosphere shaped by a deeply emotional occasion.

Supporters will remember the trophies, title races and iconic nights first, but for Guardiola to walk away in front of City’s biggest home crowd in more than half a century feels like a perfectly framed final line to one of football’s most successful eras.
