Porto city guide: Key information for Man City fans

On Tuesday, 8 September, Manchester City will travel to Portugal to take on Porto in the first round of Champions League league phase matches.

The match will not be the first trip to the Estadio do Dragao for many City fans. The Citzyzens played Porto for the first time back in 2012 and then again in 2020, albeit behind closed doors on this occasion due to COVID.

Then, in 2021, City played in their first-ever Champions League final here, losing 1-0 to Chelsea.

How many Man City fans are going to Porto?

Manchester City have yet to receive their official allocation for the match against Porto, so we are still none the wiser as to how many City fans will be in attendance at the Estadio do Dragao.

The last English team to play away in Porto was Nottingham Forest in the quarter-finals of last season's Europa League. For the away leg, Forest were given an allocation of 2,516 tickets, so Manchester City can expect something similar.

Given the quick turnaround between ticket release and kick-off, it wouldn't be a huge surprise if City failed to sell all of their tickets for the match.

Where will Man City fans sit at the Estadio do Dragao?

The away end at the Estadio do Dragao is located as far away from the pitch as possible, in the upper tier of the north-east corner. This isn't by accident, as, like many European clubs, Porto like to try to impose an intimidating atmosphere on visiting teams.

The stadium is relatively modern, having been built in the early 2000s, so there are no obstructed views from the away end. Ticket prices for away fans are expected to be around £40. Away fans will enter through gates 19 and 20.
