Rangers' season hit a significant bump in the road at the weekend when they lost 3-2 away at Ross County in one of the biggest shocks of the season in the Scottish Premiership. Rangers had led through a Jack Baldwin own goal but three second-half strikes from the away side turned the match on its head and put Celtic in control of the title race in Scotland.
The season had promised so much for Gers a few months ago. They had secured the Scottish League Cup in December thanks to a 1-0 win over Aberdeen and had a home tie with Benfica to progress through to the Europa League quarter-finals. Since losing to the Portuguese side at Ibrox, things have gone from bad to worse for Philippe Clement's side.
One man who Rangers fans believe to be at fault for much of the recent bad fortune is centre back, Connor Goldson. The 31-year-old has been an ever-present at the heart of the Rangers defence throughout the campaign but has made several key errors in recent weeks which has seen Rangers drop off the pace in the race for the title.
If the abuse on social media wasn't enough, a Rangers website ran a poll over the past few days to gauge whether fans want to see Goldson dropped or not. A staggering 96% of voters on IbroxNoise stated that they wanted to see Goldson removed from the starting XI for the match against Dundee on Wednesday night. Out of 1700 votes, just 55 said they wanted to see him continued at the back for the Teddy Bears.
Rangers fans call for Goldson and Tavernier to be dropped
Goldson isn't the only experienced player that Rangers fans want to see dropped for the title run-in. They have also turned on club captain, James Tavernier who they believe has come to the end of his journey as a Rangers stalwart. Based on activity on social media platform, X, it's clear that the duo are the scapegoats among Rangers supporters.
One fan posted in recent days: “We will never win a league with Tavernier, Goldson, Lundstram and the like. Disgrace to the jersey when it matters most yet again.” Another said: “Tavernier and Goldson can't outsee another manager. They need to be gone in the summer.”
A third added: “If Tavernier and Goldson start next season for us I won’t be there. Season tickets will be sold game by game until they are gone. I can't watch those idiots for another season.”
