Scotland fans in Poland: Last-minute heroics send Tartan Army into raptures

Scotland fans travelled to Poland in huge numbers, with over 3,000 fans travelling to Poland. With just a 1,250-seat allocation at the Kazimierz Gorsk stadium, over half those Scotland fans went to Poland with no plans to attend the game.

After their victory against Croatia on Friday, Scotland fans had renewed optimism that they could retain their spot in the Nations League A. Scotland fans had to endure chilling temperatures in Warsaw, but it did not dampen their spirits.

Must win game in Poland

The game was a must-win for Scotland, and no other result kept them in the top group of the Nations League. The pressure was on, with Poland sitting on the same points and having won the reverse fixture.

While they might be the away side, it was no surprise to hear the Scotland fans rise above the noise in the stadium. From the national anthem to the final whistle, they really were the 12th man the team needed.

Ben Doak has become a fan favourite

Doak is the most recent Scotland star to break into the national team. The Liverpool man is on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship, and his fine form has been translated to Scotland. After his man of the match performance against Croatia, he was again a key player against Poland.

With his new cult fame amongst the Scotland fans, Ben Doak has now got himself a song.

The stadium erupted after Scotland opened the scoring with just 7 minutes on the clock. The Scotland fans sang to push their team forward as they looked to increase their lead. Having hit the post twice in the first half, Scotland went into the second half with just a one-goal margin. Sadly, Scotland couldn't get back into the game, and with time ticking down, it was looking unlikely.

That was until the 92nd minute, when they finally managed to get the ball in the back of the net. Scotland fans throughout the ground were sent into bedlam as Scottish chants rang out across the stadium. It was a massive night for Scottish fans in Poland and at home. Having left it till their final two games to start winning, it was enough in the end to keep Scotland at the top of the Nations League standings for another season.
