Serbia fans clash with German police before Euro 2024 match with Denmark

It has been an eventful Euro 2024 for Serbia fans for all the wrong reasons and they have been caught up in more controversy on what as proven to be their final day at the tournament.

Before their nation's 0-0 draw with Denmark, which saw them eliminated from the competition, Serbia fans clashed with German police in Munich after stirring up trouble in the city centre hours before the match.

It's unclear what provoked the clash but videos on social media have surfaced that show riot police wading through fans of people to engage with aggressive Serbia fans in Munich. Several fans were arrested and were therefore unable to attend the match at the Allianz Arena.

Other videos showed Serbia fans throwing glass bottles at police after they had arrested a group of supporters in a popular square in the city.

Serbia fans continue to land their FA in hot water

The incident in Munich is the latest in a long list of issues related to Serbia fans. At this tournament alone, trouble has seemingly followed them wherever they have been.

The Serbian Football Association received a fine of £12,250 after their match with England due to fans throwing objects onto the pitch and for provocative messages being displayed on fan banners. They are also still being investigated for alleged racist chanting during the same match.

The message on the banner that brought them a fine was related to the ongoing tensions in Kosovo. Albanian and Croatian supporters have also earned their respective associations fines during Euro 2024 for displaying offensive banners and singing derogatory chants about Serbia in relation to Kosovo.

More fines are likely to be coming their way in the coming days after the fighting in Munich. They could also face punishment for their fans singing pro-Vladimir Putin songs in Munich on Tuesday.
