Sheffield Wednesday fans have welcomed the latest visual change at Hillsborough Stadium after the club's new badge was installed on the Kop.
The update marks another step in the Owls' return to their historic retro identity following the club's takeover earlier this year.
Sheffield Wednesday have replaced the club badge outside Hillsborough
Work began on Monday morning to install Wednesday's new badge on the side of the Kop, replacing the previous design which had been in place since 2016.
The former badge was removed less than a fortnight ago, clearing the way for the new retro Owl design to be installed ahead of Wednesday's first League One home fixture of the season against Bradford City.
The new badge was introduced following Arise Capital Partners' takeover of the club in May, with the design already featuring across Wednesday's website, digital channels and this season's playing and training kits.
For now, the badge has been installed on a large stretch banner covering the area where the previous crest was positioned.
The club is understood to have longer-term plans for a more permanent fitting.
The installation required one lane of Penistone Road to be closed, just as it was when the old badge was removed, with traffic queues extending back beyond Hillsborough Park.
The changes have been welcomed by supporters on social media, with fans describing the new badge as “very nice” and “class” after the first images emerged.
The wider work at Hillsborough has also continued ahead of Thursday night's first home league game, with upgraded fixture advertising boards now featuring the new badge and several vans visible around the South Stand and Kop areas.
FGG says: A small but important change at Sheffield Wednesday
It might only be a badge, but the return to the retro Owl is clearly significant for supporters after years of debate over the club's identity.
The overwhelmingly positive reaction suggests Wednesday have got this one right, and seeing it proudly displayed at Hillsborough should make the new era feel that little bit more real.
