Thiago Silva was presented to Fluminese fans at the Maracana Stadium on Friday night in front of 55,000 supporters. This is the highest figure for a player presentation in Brazilian football history.

Silva presented to 55,000 Fluminese fans
Silva’s departure from Chelsea to sign for Fluminese was announced in May. The 39-year-old centre-back was welcomed by a light show and thunderous applause as he entered the middle of the pitch to announce his arrival at the club. He will officially become registered as a Fluminese player in July.
Over on X.com (formerly Twitter), Silva thanked the Fluminese for attending the presentation. He said: “An unforgettable night at Maraca. Thank you to all tricolors! I love you.” This is the second time that Silva has played for the Brazilian Serie A club. From 2006 to 2009, he made over 100 appearances for Fluminese, winning the Copa do Brasil in 2007.

Previous player presentations in Brazil
The unveiling of Silva at the Maracana surpassed previous presentations of star players in Brazilian stadiums. This includes Marcelo, who was welcomed by 31,000 people in March 2023. Luis Fabiano’s return to Sao Paulo in March 2011 saw 45,000 people attend the MorumBIS Stadium. Before Silva’s welcome on Friday night, Fabiano held the record for the highest attendance for a player presentation in Brazil.
