Norway supporters transformed New York City's Times Square into a sea of red, white and blue on Sunday as thousands gathered ahead of their 2026 World Cup Group I clash with Senegal.

Footage shared from Manhattan showed fans performing the country's famous ‘Viking Row' chant, with supporters bouncing, rowing in unison and singing as they built excitement for Monday night's fixture at the New York New Jersey Stadium, also known as MetLife Stadium.

Norway fans bring viral chant to Times Square

Thousands of Norwegian supporters descended on one of the world's most recognisable landmarks, turning Times Square into an impromptu fan zone ahead of their team's second World Cup outing.

A supporter wearing a Viking helmet led the chants as crowds joined in with the iconic ‘Viking Row', a tradition that has become synonymous with Norwegian and Scandinavian football support in recent years.

The atmosphere quickly attracted attention from tourists and locals alike, with the famous square packed with supporters singing and celebrating their team's promising start to the tournament.

With Norway hoping to continue their momentum against Senegal, fans ensured they made their presence felt long before kick-off.

FGG says: This is exactly what the World Cup is all about

These are the scenes that everyone loves seeing, and they remind you why World Cups feel bigger than the sport itself.

You don’t need to be Norwegian, or even a football fan, to appreciate the sheer spectacle of a travelling support turning a landmark like Times Square into their own temporary home.

What stood out here wasn’t just the noise, but the identity. The Viking Row has become one of the sport’s most recognisable supporter rituals, but seeing it break out in the middle of Manhattan gave it a completely different energy, part cultural export, part controlled chaos.

It’s a perfect example of how a World Cup can reshape a city for a few weeks – one minute it’s tourists and taxis, the next it’s a sea of red shirts moving in unison, reminding everyone around them that this tournament belongs as much to the fans as it does to FIFA.
