West Ham fans react to news of David Moyes departure

The vast majority of West Ham fans, albeit not all, have finally got their wish. David Moyes will be departing the club at the end of the 2023/24 season, with former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui expected to replace him.

Despite mostly wanting him out, many supporters of the club have been keen to show their appreciation for what the Scotsman has achieved upon hearing the news on social media.

West Ham release club statement

David Sullivan, joint-chairman of the club, released a statement praising the work Moyes has carried out during hiss second spell at the club. He said: “On behalf of everyone at West Ham United, I would like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to David for the contribution he has made to the Football Club during his time as manager.

“David has been responsible for a period of great progress and success in our history, and we are extremely grateful for all of his hard work, commitment and dedication to the role.”

Before also stating that the timing of the announcement is perfect, suggesting that the 61-year-old will now be able to receive the send off his achievements and dedication to the team deserve.

Moyes himself also took the opportunity to thank the club, specifically the board members.

How have West Ham fans reacted?

Many supporters have been pleased to hear the news but have also been keen to heap praise on the Scotsman.

One fan took to X, formerly Twitter, to say “What an era it’s been! The Conference League win is the most amazing moment I’ve ever experienced in football and I’ll forever be grateful for that. It’s been a mad one full of ups and downs, but thanks for all the good times Moyes.”

WWhile another added “Will become a legend with time when people realise what he acheieved. Good decision to announce now.”

It may have turned slightly sour towards the end of his reign at the Hammers, but there is clearly still a lot of love and respect for him throughout the fanbase.
