Liverpool suffered the latest defeat of a tough Premier League title defence on Sunday, being comfortably beaten 3-0 by second-placed Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

As the Reds' unexpected top-flight struggles continued, manager Arne Slot was subject to taunting chants from the home crowd, who saw the Cityzens narrow their gap to league leaders Arsenal to four points, while Liverpool fell to eighth spot.

Man City target Arne Slot with brutal chant

Liverpool summer signing Florian Wirtz was not the only one on the receiving end of ridiculing chants by the home crowd, as Slot was brutally mocked by the Cityzens in the stands.

The Reds boss watched his side fall to a fifth defeat in their last six Premier League outings, as Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku got on the scoresheet, with Manchester City fans heard to be chanting “Sacked in the morning”.

In his second season at the helm at Anfield, Slot now finds his side sat eighth in the top flight having managed six victories and suffered five defeats, already losing more than in the entirety of last season's league-winning campaign.

That poor start leaves Liverpool eight points behind league leaders Arsenal and four behind Manchester City, although they do still remain within a single point of the top four.

Is Slot at risk of the sack?

Given his heroics last season, inheriting a side following the departure of legendary manager Jurgen Klopp and bringing the Premier League title to Anfield in his first year at the helm, it is hard to imagine the Liverpool hierarchy being keen to get rid of Arne Slot.

There is undoubtedly cause for concern, though, having already suffered five league defeats and conceded 17 goals in 11 top-flight games.

A busy and costly summer of transfer dealings is also yet to pay off with concerns around the performances of new arrivals Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, who, combined, set the Reds back a reported £380m.

FGG says: Slot deserves time

While it is clear to see that Liverpool are currently a shadow of the side that won the Premier League with a 10-point lead over second place last time around, Arne Slot surely has enough credit in the bank to be given a proper attempt to reverse their fortunes.

A home win over Real Madrid in the Champions League league phase in early November showed the Merseyside giants still have the quality to win big games on big stages, and they will be desperate to end an unexpected league slump after the November international break and begin to show their quality once again.
