The Estadio Jose Alvalade, which hosted the 2025 Women's Champions League final, has entered into the second phase of its redevelopment project.

The first stage of Sporting Lisbon's stadium transformation saw the removal of the moat separating the stands from the pitch, a move that was designed to both improve the matchday experience for fans and make pitch maintenance and other operational challenges easier to manage.

Following the completion of that work, the second phase of the redevelopment project will focus on making Estadio Jose Alvalade more commercially active throughout the entire year.

New premium areas to become year-round destination

Work on new premium areas at Estadio Jose Alvalade has already started, with images shared by supporters showing several rows of seats in the East Stand removed to make room for new hospitality areas.

Sporting Lisbon are also planning to construct an exclusive area known as the ‘Emerald Lounge' behind these hospitality areas, which will be aimed at premium clients, sponsors and supporters who may be looking for a more upmarket experience.

A new area called the ‘Lion's Corner' is also being constructed in the corner between the West and South Stands, which Sporting Lisbon have described as being a lounge space unlike anything currently available at Portuguese football stadiums.

Salvador Alonso, the architect behind the project, believes these new areas will ensure that the club are no longer reliant solely on matchdays and will help attract visitors throughout the entire year.

Further improvements will also be made to help Estadio Jose Alvalade become a year-round destination, including work being carried out in food and beverage facilities, restroom areas in the South Stand and the installation of a new panoramic lift designed to improve accessibility and enhance the venue's appeal as a tourist destination.

FGG Says: Fans must remain at centre of club's plans

Although these proposed improvements sound exciting for supports, with new matchday experiences set to be on offer, Sporting Lisbon must ensure that any and all further changes keep fans at the forefront of their planning.
