Wrexham CEO hints at future Racecourse Ground upgrades amid ongoing Kop Stand redevelopment

Wrexham AFC's new Kop Stand could unlock further redevelopment opportunities around the Racecourse Ground once it is completed.

Red Dragons CEO Michael Williamson has revealed the club is already considering how the space freed up by the £70 million project could be used to improve other areas of the stadium.

The new Kop is expected to be fully operational for the start of the 2027/28 season, taking the Racecourse's capacity to around 18,000.

The redevelopment will also move the players' changing rooms, gym and tunnel facilities into the Kop, freeing up significant space in the Wrexham Lager Stand.

Williamson says the club wants to assess those newly available areas before committing to another major project, with potential improvements to the Macron, Tec and Wrexham Lager stands all on the table.

He explained that the club must first see how season-ticket moves, hospitality spaces and relocated player facilities affect the rest of the stadium before deciding how best to use the available space.

Wrexham are also developing new training facilities at Colliers Park, including a gym, which will further alter the way space is used around the Racecourse.

The Kop is clearly the priority, but Williamson's comments show Wrexham are already thinking beyond the initial £70 million redevelopment and how it can reshape the rest of the Racecourse.

Moving the player facilities will create valuable space elsewhere in the ground, allowing the club to improve supporter facilities and potentially increase capacity further.

For now, Wrexham are right to wait and see how the new Kop changes the stadium before committing to another huge project, but the long-term possibilities are certainly exciting.
