Djed Spence may well still have plenty of his professional football career ahead of him, but he has already had a rollercoaster of a time.
After being highly rated as a teenager at Middlesbrough, a falling out with Neil Warnock saw the player cast aside, but the player somehow found his way to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2022.
His early years at the North London club were marred by reports of a bad attitude, with Spence also sent out on loan numerous times, but Spence eventually emerged as one of the club's most important players during their difficult 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons.

The Djed Spence chant is controversial specifically because it features the word ‘Yid', which has long been a contentious phrase associated with Tottenham Hotspur and their supporters.
The club's links with the Jewish community saw the word used as an antisemitic slur towards Spurs fans in the 1970s. Instead of leading a campaign to shut the chants down, the Spurs fans decided to take ownership of the phrase to take away all offensive meaning.
As a result, Tottenham fans have called themselves the ‘Yid Army' for several decades now, but it remains a point of contention in some quarters.
