Planning approval for the stadium was granted in 2008, with construction beginning in December that year before the ground opened in 2011.
The Amex increased capacity by approximately 23,000 seats compared with Withdean Stadium, which held around 8,850 spectators. The pitch measures 105m by 68m, while the stadium contains four main stands and more than 2,000 premium and hospitality seats.
The venue has also hosted matches at the 2015 Rugby World Cup and UEFA Women's Euro 2022, with Falmer railway station situated immediately beside the stadium.
American Express has held the stadium naming rights since it opened in 2011, making the partnership a longstanding part of Brighton's identity.
