Birmingham spent heavily in the summer transfer window, making them the overwhelming favourites for promotion. Under their American ownership, which purchased the club last year, attendances have improved at St Andrew’s, and they are leading League One in terms of the number of spectators this season.
The Blues are currently third, behind Wycombe and Wrexham at the top of the division, with 33 points from 15 games. Burton Albion and Crawley Town are at the other end of the table, with both their average attendances below 4,100 due to their much smaller stadiums.
Highest ever League One attendance
The highest attendance at a League One match came on Boxing Day in 2018. Sunderland hosted Bradford City at the Stadium of Light, with 46,039 fans at the ground. Aiden McGeady scored the only goal of the game. and this attendance figure is yet to be beaten in the third tier of English football.
