Leeds United's season so far
Whether you believe in Leeds as much as Hinchcliffe does or not, one thing that is undeniable is just how impressive they have been so far this season.
The Yorkshire club have won their last five consecutive league matches, and are currently just six points adrift of league leaders Leicester City.
Having scored an impressive 64 goals in just 34 games, they have been excellent going forward, seemingly carving defences open at will at times. However, it is their defence that has been especially impressive.
Daniel Farke's side have conceded just 27 goals in the league this season -that is the lowest amount in the entire division and two less than the next-best defence. It is this combination of defensive solidity and attacking prowess that has allowed them to dominate games – one of the main reasons behind Hinchcliffe's bold claims.
What did Andy Hinchcliffe say?
After praising the new-found balance of the side, the Sky Sports pundit went on to predict that Leeds will remain unbeaten at Elland Road for the entire campaign.
Speaking to Sky Sports he said: “It's just the way they approach games, the way they dominate games, the balance of their performances is superb. With [Archie] Gray and [Ethan] Ampadu going into the back four from midfield and [Ilia] Gruev and [Glen] Kamara coming into central midfield, the team actually looks better balanced now than it did previously.”
“The way that they're playing, the dominance of games, not just winning games, they're deserving to win games as well – if you look at their performance data, Expected Goals, they're ahead. The only one that wasn't was actually Leicester [3-1] but they won it in the final ten minutes in a different way.”
Next came the all-important claim: “I expect them possibly to go unbeaten at Elland Road all season.”
How did Leeds United fans react?
Unsurprisingly, given their impressive form, many fans reacted to the prediction with confidence, albeit remaining realistic at the same time. One fan was keen to highlight the fact that this achievement is incredibly rare, stating: “Thanks for trying to jinx us Andy but I fully agree no reason why not all depends on luck with injuries and this Cup run doesn't it but nobody does that the top 4 will all lose a game or 2 before this season is over.”
While another fan simply said “Great mindset. Let's go”.
