The London Stadium has appointed the architects behind Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to explore a major transformation of the surrounding site.
Populous will investigate new leisure, hospitality and entertainment opportunities designed to turn the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park venue into a stronger year-round destination.
London Stadium appoints Populous to lead transformation
Populous has been appointed Lead Consultant to develop a spatial strategy for London Stadium and the land surrounding the venue.
The study will explore a range of potential uses, including leisure and entertainment, hospitality, hotels, conferencing, food and drink and a possible secondary venue.
The plans will also consider improvements to the public realm, landscaping and connections between the stadium, its canalside setting and the wider Olympic Park.
Populous will work alongside the London Borough of Newham, commercial advisers and potential development partners to assess the business case and how any proposals could be delivered.
The project builds on feasibility work completed in 2024, with sustainability, climate resilience and inclusion among the principles guiding the study.

FGG says: Populous' proven track record makes London Stadium project intriguing
Populous is a particularly interesting choice given its track record of delivering some of the world's most recognisable sporting venues, including Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The London Stadium already has a unique position as a major multi-use venue, but this project suggests the ambition is now to make the surrounding area work harder too, rather than simply relying on major event days.
If Populous can combine the stadium's existing strengths with better leisure, hospitality and public spaces, London Stadium could become a much more complete destination in its own right.
