Arsenal supporters produced a spectacular display before their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Sporting CP.

And the message inside the Emirates Stadium could hardly have been clearer.

Arsenal fans had clear message for players before Sporting CP second leg

Before the Gunners faced off against the Portuguese outfit in a big European clash, fans inside the Emirates Stadium unveiled a huge tifo stretching across the stands.

The huge tifo featured the words “History in our sights” alongside images of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Noni Madueke and Leandro Trossard.

It was a fitting message given what was at stake for Mikel Arteta and his side.

Victory over Sporting would send Arsenal into the Champions League semi-finals for a second successive season – something the club had never achieved before.

Prior to this current run, Arsenal had only ever reached the last four of the competition twice, in 2006 and 2009.

The atmosphere inside the stadium appeared electric as supporters attempted to inspire the team on another huge European night in north London.

A 0-0 draw would be enough in the end, with Kai Havertz's late winner in Portugal proving to be the decisive moment.

Big tifos and choreographies can sometimes feel overdone, but this one felt perfectly judged.

The message summed up exactly what the night meant for Arsenal and their supporters, with the club on the verge of creating a little piece of history.

Combined with the atmosphere inside the Emirates, it no doubt gave the players an extra lift before one of the biggest matches the stadium has hosted in years.
