Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has reportedly drawn criticism on social media after arriving at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday wearing a scarf featuring both Arsenal and Leeds colours.

The Gunners went on to beat Leeds 2-1 in the Premier League, but Seaman's choice of attire became a talking point among supporters, with some questioning why a club legend would wear a half-and-half scarf.

David Seaman's ties with Arsenal and Leeds

Seaman's connection to Leeds dates back to his youth, having joined the Yorkshire club before moving on to build his senior career elsewhere. His subsequent 13-year spell at Arsenal made him one of the club's most recognisable goalkeepers.

Across that period, he featured 564 times for the Gunners in all competitions, including 405 league outings, and collected four FA Cup winners' medals. He was also part of the Arsenal teams that completed league and cup doubles in 1998 and 2002, while representing England on 75 occasions.

His Arsenal career ended in 2003, when he moved to Manchester City for his final season as a professional before retiring at 40.

Fans react to David Seaman's half-and-half scarf

According to The Sun, Seaman's choice of scarf prompted a mixture of criticism and jokes online. Social media users were quick to share their thoughts, with reactions ranging from disapproval to light-hearted remarks.

One supporter wrote, “David Seaman wearing a half-and-half scarf. Games gone.” Another suggested that Seaman was probably “the only person in the world who can get away with a dual scarf”.

A third user jokingly suggested that the former goalkeeper should be removed from the stadium and allowed back only “once he's dressed appropriately,” before dismissing the situation as “woke nonsense”.

Seaman's achievements at Arsenal remain substantial, while his early connection to Leeds helps explain why he might feel an attachment to both clubs.

The reaction highlights how strongly some supporters view visible displays of loyalty, even when they involve a former player with links to both sides.
