Barcelona have reportedly introduced new penalty clauses into their agreement with construction company Limak as pressure mounts to keep the Camp Nou redevelopment project on schedule.
The Spanish giants are even prepared to appoint another contractor to complete the stadium's roof if key deadlines are missed, highlighting the financial importance of avoiding further delays.
Barcelona introduce penalty clause with new Camp Nou construction company
According to reports in Spain, Barcelona and the investors financing the project have strengthened contractual measures against Limak, which is overseeing the comprehensive renovation of the Camp Nou.
Two key deadlines could trigger the most significant consequence, with the LaLiga giants replacing the Turkish company for the installation of the stadium roof.
The first requires the new club shop, or Botiga, to be completed by January, allowing it to replace the existing store without losing potential revenue.
The second demands that 75% of the VIP seating is fully operational by March 31st.
Both milestones are considered crucial to generating matchday income and helping Barcelona recover financially before the next major construction phase.
The current plan is for roof installation to begin after the end of the 2026-27 season, with completion targeted for October or November 2027.

Barcelona have secured the Olympic Stadium in Montjuic until January 2028 in case they need to play there during the early stages of the 2027-28 campaign.
The club are then targeting a return to Camp Nou in January 2028, with capacity expected to reach approximately 95,000, before eventually achieving the full planned 104,000.
The redevelopment has already experienced delays and rising costs, with another prolonged spell away from Camp Nou potentially forcing Barcelona to revise their financial projections once again.
Although relations between the club and Limak remain publicly cordial, Barcelona reportedly insist that alternative arrangements are available if the construction company fails to meet its obligations.
FGG says: Barcelona cannot afford another costly Camp Nou delay
The introduction of stronger contractual penalties underlines how much is riding on the remaining stages of the redevelopment.
Barcelona need the stadium generating substantial revenue again, particularly with VIP facilities and commercial operations playing such an important role in the project's financial model.
Replacing Limak for the roof installation would be a drastic move, but the club clearly want to demonstrate that further delays will have consequences.
After such a lengthy and expensive redevelopment, meeting the next set of deadlines is becoming increasingly important.
