Barcelona have confirmed their ambition to bring major sporting events back to the Spotify Camp Nou by officially announcing a bid to host the 2029 Champions League final as their stadium redevelopment nears completion.
The move comes soon after their application to stage the 2030 World Cup final, underlining the LaLiga giant's determination to re-establish their home as one of world football's premier venues.
Barcelona confirm bid to host 2029 Champions League final
In a statement published on the club's official website, Barcelona confirmed they have formally entered the bidding process in collaboration with Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia and the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
The club has proposed the newly redeveloped Camp Nou as the host venue, subject to UEFA approval. This announcement triggers an initial assessment process, with a final decision set to be made later in 2026.
It's also thought that Wembley Stadium is among the leading contenders.
If successful, then the Champions League final would return to the Catalan capital for the first time since 1999, when Manchester United completed a famous comeback against Bayern Munich in front of 90,245 supporters.

FGG says: A statement of intent from Barcelona after Camp Nou redevelopment
That potential 30-year anniversary could strongly work in Barcelona's favour, particularly as UEFA has often favoured modern, high-capacity stadiums in recent years.
The likes of Wembley and the Allianz Arena are two regular choices, thanks to their infrastructure, commercial potential and ability to deliver large-scale events.
Camp Nou's redevelopment has surely been designed with exactly this in mind, and the fact that they are bidding for both the Champions League and World Cup final in successive years suggests the club are confident that the stadium will meet, and possibly exceed, UEFA and FIFA requirements.
Overall, it does feel like a statement of intent from the current LaLiga leaders.
Not only are Barca renovating their long-term home, but they are aiming to position themselves in the heart of football's biggest and best events.
After recent years of financial struggle, being successful in this bid would be a major step forward for the Spanish giants.
