Athletic Bilbao fans travel to Seville in their numbers ahead of Copa del Rey final

Thousands of Athletic Bilbao fans have travelled to Seville ahead of their Copa del Rey final against Mallorca.

Bilbao are looking to secure their 24th Copa del Rey title and their first since 1984. The match will take place at the Estadio de La Cartuja.

Over 100,000 fans in Seville for cup final

More than 80,000 Basque supporters will travel to Seville, even though they have been allocated 20,698 tickets for the final. Mallorca have also sold out their allocation at the 57,619-capacity stadium.

Spanish authorities have also estimated that Bilbao fans will outnumber Mallorca supporters by four to one. Over 100,000 fans from both teams are expected to travel to Seville, with hotels in the region fully booked. As a result, there are 1,500 police officers monitoring the surrounding areas of the stadium.

Videos of Bilbao fans circulate on social media

Over on X.com (formerly Twitter), @emctear posted a video of Bilbao fans in the streets of Seville chanting and waving red and white scarves. The caption was, “Athletic fans in Seville. This is what football is all about. Nothing beats supporting your hometown team and then being part of a massive away days’ exodus with your mates.”

Meanwhile, @alexkirkland posted four pictures of Bilbao fans lining the streets with their trademark colours. He said: “In Sevilla for the #CopadelRey final. So, it seems, is the entire population of Bilbao.” @pile_of_eggs added: “There mustn’t be a soul left in Bilbao. Athletic fans heavily outnumbering Mallorca on matchday minus one.”
