It isn’t just Liverpool and Celtic who sing You’ll Never Walk Alone before home matches. Dortmund are one of two German clubs to sing the famous anthem. A band called ‘Pur Harmony', who were all Dortmund fans, covered the famous track in the 1990s. It was adopted by the club’s supporters after the recording was shared with the club’s stadium announcer.

Dortmund is renowned for being a family club, with generations of loyal supporters following the team for generations. This song takes you through the journey of being a football fan, picking up your favourite team from a young age and sticking with them for the rest of your life.

This fan chant was written by Bruno Kunst and has become one of the most important songs in the club's history. Throughout the chant, the origins of the club are referenced, specifically in the line, which says, “In 1909, a star was born.” As well as this, the BVB Foundation has been named after this chant.
On the foundation website, they explain the significance of the song: “Shine on my star Borussia” by Bruno Knust, the Borsigplatz as the cradle of Borussia Dortmund – that is the simple explanation of how the foundation's name and symbol are derived. In keeping with the well-known BVB song, the Borsigplatz as a roundabout with its six access roads forms a star from a bird's eye view and with a little imagination: the combination of both fits and never lets us forget where our roots are.”
