Brighton & Hove Albion's ongoing redevelopment of the Amex Stadium has reached another important milestone after new rail seating began to be installed as part of the club's safe standing expansion plans.
The work is the latest phase of Brighton's wider programme of stadium improvements, with the Seagulls continuing to invest in the matchday experience while gradually increasing the capacity and functionality of the Amex.
Supporters have already noticed the installation work taking place in the North Stand, where additional rail seating is being fitted ahead of its introduction during the 2026-27 season. The project follows a supporter consultation in which a clear majority backed the expansion of safe standing areas.
The latest development represents another positive step for a club that has consistently invested in its home since moving to the Amex in 2011.
New rail seating marks latest phase of Amex redevelopment
Brighton confirmed earlier this year that safe standing areas would be expanded following positive feedback from supporters and the success of the initial rollout.
The latest work will see additional rail seating installed across the lower rows of the North Stand, creating more space for fans who wish to stand safely during matches.
The installation is scheduled to be completed during the September international break, minimising disruption to Premier League fixtures. The club has also confirmed that supporters affected by the expanded safe standing section will be given an opportunity to relocate if they would prefer to remain in traditional seated areas.
The move follows the introduction of safe standing at the Amex in 2025 and reflects the growing number of Premier League clubs adopting rail seating after changes to government policy.
Brighton continue long-term investment in the Amex
The safe standing expansion forms just one part of Brighton's broader vision for the Amex Stadium.
Over recent years, the club has invested in improved hospitality facilities, a new fan zone, additional food and drink outlets and enhanced supporter amenities, while previous expansion work increased the stadium's capacity to almost 32,000.
Club officials have also stated that there remains scope to add several hundred more seats in the future, although a major increase is unlikely because of the stadium's existing design.
Brighton's steady investment reflects the club's ambition to improve both supporter experience and commercial revenue without compromising the stadium's atmosphere.
With the latest rail seating now being installed, another phase of that long-term strategy is visibly taking shape as the Seagulls prepare for another Premier League campaign.
FGG says: Brighton are improving without losing what makes the Amex special
Not every stadium upgrade needs to involve thousands of new seats or a complete rebuild. Brighton have consistently taken an incremental approach since moving to the Amex, improving facilities whenever opportunities arise.
Expanding safe standing is another sensible investment that should enhance the atmosphere while giving supporters more choice. It is another example of the club modernising its stadium in a measured way rather than pursuing costly headline-grabbing projects.
