How it happened – Burnley fans escorted from stand
The incident occurred in the first half of Burnleyโs 1-1 draw against Wolves in the Premier League. When the strip of metal was spotted, Lancashire Police worked with stewards to cordon off the area and take fans out of block 7 in the lower tier of the stand. These fans were relocated to the clubโs FanZone where they watched the action on a big screen with no direct view of the pitch.

Burnley respond to mid-game stand closure
Burnley have said that repair work in the stand has already started following the incident last night. In a club statement, Burnley said: โBecause of a minor structural issue with the roofing of the Jimmy McIlroy stand we made the decision, as a precaution, to move a section of the supporters from the seating underneath that area of the stand.โ
The club added: “The safety of supporters is always our highest priority and we thank them all again for their patience and understanding.”
Burnley have also said that they are confident of resolving the issue for the next home game against Brighton on April 13. The Lancashire club only have three Premier League home matches to go this season, including the match against the Seagulls.
