Barcelona have officially entered the race to host the 2029 Champions League final, with the newly redeveloped Spotify Camp Nou set to rival Wembley Stadium for one of football's biggest occasions.

Barcelona launch bid to bring Champions League final back to Camp Nou

The Catalan giants have confirmed that, alongside Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), they have formally submitted their bid dossier to UEFA ahead of the governing body's final decision later this year.

The submission includes all of the technical, contractual and institutional guarantees required by UEFA, with Barcelona aiming to showcase the transformed Spotify Camp Nou as the ideal stage for European football's showpiece event.

Currently undergoing a major redevelopment, the stadium is set to remain the largest football venue in Europe by capacity and one of the most technologically advanced grounds on the continent.

Barcelona's bid also leans heavily on the city's proven track record of hosting major international sporting events, with officials confident both the venue and the city can successfully stage a Champions League final.

Several rival bids are expected, with Wembley widely viewed as one of the strongest competitors.

The national stadium has already hosted the final on multiple occasions and remains UEFA's go-to venue for major European showpieces thanks to its size, infrastructure and global profile.

The final host is expected to be announced by UEFA in the final quarter of this year.

FGG says: A fitting occasion for the new-look Camp Nou

Wembley will always be difficult to beat given its history and status within European football, but there is a strong argument for Barcelona.

Camp Nou has not staged a Champions League final since 1999, and hosting the 2029 showpiece would coincide with the 30-year anniversary of that famous final between Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

If the redevelopment is completed as planned, it would provide a fitting stage for European football's biggest club match.
